The Guenoc Valley is a small AVA in southern Lake County, just north of Napa County. The sole winery located within the Guenoc AVA is Langtry Estate & Vineyards, which uses Guenoc as a registered trademark. This particular offering is not, however, Guenoc Valley wine. Indeed, the label discloses that it contains less than 15% Guenoc Valley wine. Whatever wine did end up in the bottle is not very good. We were first struck by the rusty color, which is not a good sign for a one-year-old wine. Despite what the color might suggest, the wine doesn’t smell or taste oxidized. Instead, the nose reveals dirty oak and shoe leather. The taste is the same, with the addition of some artificial vanilla flavoring.
