Caretaker Pinot Noir, Santa Maria Valley

#37 front

Another attempt at a $10 Pinot, and another failure. This one has the sweet, artificial strawberry smell that seems to be rather common in lower-priced California Pinots (and rather popular with many consumers, it must be said). In addition to the artificial strawberry, we detected a prominent dill pickle smell, which seems to be rather uncommon (and presumably unpopular with the vast majority of consumers). We probably wouldn’t have recommended it based on the artificial strawberry characteristic; the pickle, however, makes this an easy call: avoid.
