Spiral Wines Cabernet Sauvignon

This one will likely receive a lot of attention. It’s a Napa Valley Cabernet from the excellent 2009 vintage—selling for $4.99. Given that the average Napa Cab fetches about $45, this seems too good to be true. And it is. That’s not to say this is a bad wine, only that it tastes nothing like a Napa Cabernet (or any Cabernet, for that matter). The nose reveals bright, sweet cherry and strawberry notes, with a bit of sweet spice. The most striking thing about the taste is the utter lack of tannins. This is really more like a simple, thin Merlot.

I purchased the 2009 Cabernet….loved it….but now Trader Joe’s said you’re not shipping to them….where can I find your wine in Raleigh, NC?

  • Decant this wine before you order a pizza or begin to cook that pasta and you are in for a very economical bottle thats got legs … and quality equal or superior to many of the mass produced $10 to $15 California Cabs. This is no thin Merlot. Just give it time to breathe. Do a blind test with friends who know wine, serve pizza, and ask them to guess the price of each bottle tested, before you unveil the winner and the prices paid. Your friends will ask, “Hey, where can I get that Spiral?”
