This is a hot one. By hot, we don’t mean appealing, attractive, or good. We mean the alcohol (labeled at a not-unusually-high 14.5%) is so prominent, it produces a hot, burning sensation in the mouth. The wine isn’t helped by aggressive and unbalanced oak, suggesting an overzealous use of wood chips. Skip this one, and instead pick up TJ’s other “Reserve” Syrah, also priced at $9.99, and reviewed here.
